i have some stupid shit called pharyngitis. If you’ve never heard of it before, all you really need to know is that it’s like a strep wanna-be. It has all the symptoms of strep (fevers, chills, swollen lymph nodes, etc). Except, most of the cases are viral (what I have) and on rare occasions people get the bacterial version (which is pretty much strep). I know I should be happy I don’t have strep, but it’s really hard to get excited when I know they just took $24 from me, and it hurts to swallow my own spit.
Even the name is off-putting. Pharyngitis. The names strep and mono can stand alone, and if you mention either by name someone is bound to know what you are talking about. I can’t say the same for what I have, probably because it sounds more like a sexually transmitted disease than a throat disorder. The doctor said that if it does not pass by the end of this weekend, then to come back so she can test for mono. She gave me a fact sheet listing ways to treat the virus, so I really hope I start making some progress now that I have more information.
What sucks the most is that I don’t know when I’ll get “better.” I have so much crap to do this weekend it’s not even funny. I almost wish I did have strep, so I could go home & come back here healthy, instead of risking getting anyone else sick. *Sigh*
In other news, I went to the last basketball game of the season vs. Miami last night. We won the game, and I was quite happy despite being unable to do my usual jumping up and down and loud yelling (during the Zombie Nation intro I felt my brain was gonna fall out of my skull, haha). What really sucks is that this is Jason’s last (free) basketball game 🙁 He’s literally been going to games since the team played at Cole Field House eight years ago. I really hope he’s able to get season’s tickets, though we both know the waiting list is insane. I will at least try to get him in some games for next season, since I’ll be here for two more semesters.
Well my roomie just said to beware of what the doctors at the health center say, because they don’t always make the right diagnosis. Whee, that makes me feel so much better 🙁 Going to sleep before JOUR453….
